General

The Solway Sub-Aqua Club was formed in 1990 and is a part of the Scottish Sub-Aqua Club; we have members from across Cumbria and Southern Scotland and all are made very welcome.
We meet on Monday evenings at 8 p.m. at Wigton Swimming Pool, these sessions last for approximately 1½ hours and are free to all members.
The evening is concluded in the Stocksman Pub, Wigton; this is the social part of the evening and is considered by many to be the most important!
Although all our members regularly dive one element that has contributed to our far reaching popularity is the simple fact that we do more than just go diving every week; we also enjoy a diverse range of activities from kart racing to gorge walking to summer barbecues.
Anything is possible and everyone has a great time.

First steps

If you have never experienced sub-aqua breathing before your first experience will be a try-a-dive in the pool followed by snorkel training which lays the foundations for the subsequent aqua-lung training.
All aqua-lung training is carried out by qualified Branch Instructors, after starting in the pool the later stages will move into local lakes or Scottish seas
Tuition is organised by the Training Officer who will co-ordinate your needs with our team of instructors on a one to one basis avoiding the pressures of group tuition.
Before you can progress to aqua-lung training you must be a member of the SSAC and complete a self-certification medical but club members are always on hand to offer any help or advice you may need and to get you started all equipment you require for your basic pool training will be provided free of charge by the club.
